I have read couple of James bond (Ian Flemming) books

This is the espionage book that I've read, it's really interesting. I read "Goldfinger" a long time ago and enjoyed it. The movie followed the book's plot pretty closely, and I think "Goldfinger" was the best of the Bond movies. I see "Casino Royale" out on the paperback racks now. I think that's the last of the Ian Fleming novels to be filmed, not counting the Woody Allen film which was more of a spoof.

Do you like reading this series? and is there any other book you can recommend?

I am a certified bookworm

I read a lot and I must say I really love books. I usually read novels such as that of Danielle Steel. I also read Stephen King's books. I usually buy them on Book Sale since as we know books are very expensive here in the Philippines. I terms of favorate, I do read books of Sydney Sheldon. I have all of them and collected it actually. I am really entertained with his lines there.

I remember the days when going to the bookstore would give me such pleasure. To pick among the books to take home with me. Now I am unfortunate that time does not allow me that pleasure anymore. I have always loved reading books and now have to be content with rereading some of my old favorites when I do find the time. I have read a lot of books but there are a few types that I haven't tried like the biographies, the non-fictional types.

I get several magazines in the mail each month.

I get several magazines in the mail each month. All of which are free!! Not only do I enjoy earning money online but another hobby of mine is freebie finding! There are tons of magazines out there you can get for free, which is just great. Because I otherwise would never be able to afford them each month.

So I'm curious - what magazines do you read each month? What magazine is your favorite?

I read several each month! My all time favorite is ALL YOU. It's a magazine put out by Walmart and it has TONS of coupons in it. It's great! The other magazines I get in the mail are Shape, Fitness, Prevention, Weight Watchers, Body & Soul, Martha Stewart Living, Parents, Woman's Day, hmm I know there are probably more - I just can't think of all of them right now. Seriously at the beginning of each month my mailbox is quite full of magazines! I love it! I have more free time now that I can actually read them all too.

Do you collect magazines?

I have a niece who are an avid collection of teenage magazines. She got boxes for different editions of her favorite magazines, like candy magazines, seventeen, teen people, pink, Elle girl, k-zone, and total girls. She always saves her allowance every month to buy her favorite magazines. I think we gonna have a garage sales for magazines it fill her room with almost more than 2 boxes. But she hate the idesa. she loves those stuffs and will even quarrels to her little sister if she read and crumple the pages. she says she like and loves collecting it as shelearn from the articles and many fashion ideas. They have lots of pictures which sometimes she imitates the fashion.. How about you? Do you know a member of your family who like to collect magazines? What are your reasons in collecting magazines? What kinds of magazines? What satisfaction you derive from it?

Do you read playboy magazine?

In 1995, I had been to US and I picked couple of current issues of Playboy and saw only pictures. I did not find time to read the literature. These magazines were banned in Asia at that time and now it is available on stands. Its speciality is not to show the private parts of humans and rest all is just blown up to whatever proportion the magazine permits.

I love books literature magazines

I love books literature magazines. To me they're valuable, but my house is cluttered with them because I can't afford storage for them. After having been here in this home for 4 years we're not settled yet. I'll be settled when the house doesn't require anymore repair. At times when I feel uncaring I'll give them all away, but then I regret later.

Are magazines a waste of money?

Magazines are for sale in all supermarkets these days. The price of some of them is quite high and everyones interests are there. Ladies magazines are especially popular for teenagers and women. A man might like a magazine about cars. Children probably like magazines about things they have seen on television.

But, if there is a magazine that you really like to read, the best option is to get a subscription to it. It makes it much cheaper. They can do this because the supermarket or book store doesnt have to make their money off of it!

If you do get a subscription, it is nice to split the cost with a friend and then share the magazines. That way you can enjoy them but it costs you even less!

If you have the time, another good option is to look through the magazines at the library. That way it is completely free!

I, personally, have always enjoyed National Geographic. My grandmother always bought us a subscription to the kids version - 'World'. Now I like them both!

Do You Read Magazines?

If so, what magazines do you read and why?

When i was a kid, i loved getting Reptiles magazine because I had pet reptiles and I also enjoyed the pictures. I'm not good at actually reading the articles due to the small font size and the generally black font on white paper style. But I still enjoyed the magazines.

As an adult I haven't subscribed to magazines since I am not a good reader. But finally I subscribed to Runners World just because I love their online articles and figured I might also get some reading done in the magazine. Also, since I have gotten my friends interested in running too and they are far better readers than me, I can also make them read the articles to me.

do you work on more than one writing project at a time?

I do work on more than one project at a time, although it goes against my grain. I am the perfectionist, do one thing at a time sort of person. With writing, you just have to adapt. I have an expandable plastic folder with dividers that I use to store notes and other material. I also have a bigger canvas bag with potential information that might be helpful someday. Finally, I use the computer folders to keep things organized. With all this, I don't feel very organized at all. Somehow it works.

I'd love to hear how you do it.

Good luck with your writing!

Anyone mind helping me a little more?

I'm thinking of submitting a short excerpt from a story I'm working on to Helium, I reread it and edited it a little--but I'm not sure it's at it's best yet! Anyone mind helping me a little more? I appreciate any contsrutcive critism and any comments you might have about it! Thanks!

The two men parked their van against the curb and stepped outside, making small talk as the lone cop approached. Dave didn’t think the guy looked that tough, with his smooth baby face and narrow waist, he didn’t know what Carl was worried about. This guy would be easy.
Ray watched the two men warily as they checked a rear tire. He slowed as he neared them, hand lingering by his baton.
“You guys alright?”
“We’re fine officer,” the skinny one said. “Just making sure we didn’t spring a leak.”
“You sure you don’t want some help?”
“No no, thanks though.”
“Alight,” Ray moved around them, eyeing the big quiet fellow. “Have a good night.”
“Thank you Ra-officer,” Dave glared at Carl.
Ray stopped and turned. The men squared off on the sidewalk. Ray reached for his radio. The large mans quickness took him by surprise as he shoved him against the van’s side, a large hand around his throat. Ray’s feet hung inches off the ground, the grip on his neck tightened. Ray saw the smaller man approaching from the side, a needle in hand.
He snatched the baton from his belt and whipped it against the big man’s stomach. He dropped hard on the sidewalk, his ankle bending under his weight. He screamed as he swung the baton against the back of the man’s knee. The man fell beside him, screaming and cursing.
“Officer needs assistance!” Ray yelled into his radio, “At-“
Dave grabbed under Ray’s chin and pulled him backwards, hitting his head on the ground. He lay dazed on the sidewalk as the skinny man approached with the needle again. He tried sitting up but Dave held his shoulders.
Voices yelled out over the radio, calling for a location on him.
Ray squirmed as Carl knelt beside him, “the less you move around the less you’ll feel this.”
Ray kick up his knee, hitting Carl’s shoulder and flinging him sideways. Carl’s elbow hit Dave’s head; the needle stabbed the big man’s hand as Carl struggled to sit up.
“Delancy!” Ray yelled into his radio.
Dave stood up, “screw this!” He kicked Ray’s head, knocking him out.

The left handed people

Left handedness was considered a bad thing in the early ages. It is because it was different than usual, with most of the people being right handed. Therefore, the left handed people were considered evil and an incarnation of devil. (Hence the word sinister (left-handed in Latin), which means threatening or evil. This does not have any scientific backing. Also science has proved that left handedness is normal and there is nothing unusual about it.

I think your tutor forced their daughter to change from left handed because they are superstitious and do not want their kid to be labeled as evil.

Reading is a huge part of writing

Reading is a huge part of writing. If you don't read you miss out on the number one best school for writing. So many times, I've read something and thought "Man, that's a good idea."

But you pose an interesting question. (I know you didn't mean to.) happy Is reading online the same thing as reading a hard copy? On the surface it's all reading, right? The words are there, one you hold in your hands and turn pages, the other you click. Shouldn't be any different. But, I wonder. Reading online is a much different experience from reading a book. For one thing, it's harder on the eyes and body. For another, I wonder if the information overload of websites detracts from the reading experience. I'm not really espousing an opinion.

Would you rather save money or re-invest?

I use to be a saver myself, however due to the recent hype of investment I am now more proned toward re-investing my own assets and yes, it involved risk. sometimes they call it calculated risk, some times it's luck and some times it's miracle.

luck= opportunity + preparation
miracle= doing the same thing, expect different result.

my advise, in whatever we invest in, do our homework - understand the industry, the ins and outs, the strategies (exit, marketing, sales, management), do an investment plan, check out the market.

the good news, there are alot of different ways to do our homework; hire professionals (involve money), do sampling; just make an estimation, ask friends and people around you. oh yes, join forums.

gradually, you'll increase your experience and knowledge. and the more experience gained, you reduce the risk involved. finally be persistent.

err, and i don't think i want to drool about the types of investments out there.. hahahahahah, and the more i write, the more i feel like writing a college report for marketing and investment.

anyway, good luck for all the investment we are going to put our money in.

p.s Plan B - Save

What's the deal with the insurance changes on Ebay?

They say on sept. 22nd they aren't going to have the option and i don't understand why. I mean i have read in several different areas and in one area it says you can still offer it but then another area says you can't offer it.. im totally confused!!

Are requiring us to pay for insurance when we sell now?!? as a seller i think only 1 time has the person bought insurance on an item but i liked being able to give the option.. if i have to pay for it mandatory then that's gonna end up screwing me out of money..

so can some one explain what they mean? talk to me like i'm two since apparently i'm having issues understanding several different sources that claim to explain it lol

Where have books gone!!

Most of the leisure time are gifted are spent, with our computers, most of the other mediums of entertainment as well. Where have books gone, the libraries have decreased in number I guess, more and more Cyber cafes are opened and also many other modes of delivering human pleasure have come up rather than new book centers.

People do not have books on their list when it comes to spending time. The books are the ones I believe give any person as much pleasure and imagination that one could probably attain in any other way. There are pdf's but they don't match real hand held books, the wonderful stories, novels, science fiction, are getting dim day by day.

Have you tried Ebooks?

Do you prefer a book in your hands, or have an ebook reader device with a library's worth of books loaded? Do you use MS Reader, or Project Gutenberg?

I like having a book in my hand, but I also like having accessible ways of finding "new" material...Gutenberg is good for Public domain reading, classics and such, with MS reader you can buy more current ebooks. I still have one of the ebookman devices-mine was flawed-battery life wasn't great, and if you changed the batteries, it wiped the books in the memory! I recently discovered booksinmyphone.com,which has an app you can download to a cellphone with Java software. I think it's the ultimate portable ebook!

After you have bought a book how many of you actually ever re-read the books?

I do not think I have ever been able to re-read a book. Once I remember I stopped reading a self-help book and then went back to it a year later and tried to re-read the beginning and became frustrated with it because it started to coe back to me. I do not think I could re-read a book (especially a fiction book) where I already knew the ending.

How many of you re-read books?

Every writer has their own kind of writing style

They are all unique in their own way. It is the combination of all the things that makes a writer what they are. It is their technique, how they put their words together to form their story. The content, what their story is about. The way they choose to tell the story. Whether they choose to make it humorous, serious, mysterious or sad it
can be up to the individual to decide which way they want to tell it. And then when it is finished it is up to the person who is reading it to decide how they interpret it. There are so many different things that go into being a writer. That is why we have so many and so many different types of books and writings and each one can be just as great in their own way.

How much does it bother you that people type so poorly on the internet?

It's obvious that some people aren't entirely uneducated, but, why do people insist in writing so poorly at the computer when they wouldn't do it with their hand writing. It's already easier and quicker by default, yet people keep skipping letters or rearranging them in incomprehensible orders.

Are you annoyed by this? Are you capable of reading their messages always and without issues?

The problem here is not when they make a typo by accident. That happens with all of us; I'm incredibly prone to that which is why it's good I keep a dictionary add-on in Firefox.

The problem is moreso when the "rule" of the first and last letter in place stop applying, with the letters on the middle aren't just misplaced, but when people plain and simply steal letters altogether from it and mash up the rest. When not only they do this with one word but every, single, one from their whole message!

Sure, you can still perceive them, but then it's almost like if rather than english we're all using l33t speak.

The dash and hyphen aren't the same

The dash and hyphen aren't the same, but many writers use them as if they were. Do you use a dash--if you use one--as the grammar books dictate? Or do you use a hyphen - like this one - to punctuate your sentence? Do you put your dash next to the word--like this, or do you leave a space after the last letter and before the first of the two hyphens -- like this?

Which is correct?

Which character do you like in harry potter?

I like Ron the most in the main characters of Harry potter but i would love to mention another character which is my favourite of all.

He is harry potters enemy MALFOY who studies with him in Hogwards. I like his personality as well as his acting in a negative role, i think he better suited in a positive role of harry's friend rather than enemy.

I like trying new things

Personally, I like trying new things. I don't have much access to tea or anything for herbal teas, since my income is rather scarce right now, but I am interested in different ways to get a good tasting drink. One thing I've done was mix a spoonful of poppy seeds in with black tea. It gave the tea a smooth, almost sweet flavor, and it also helped ease the edge that the caffeine gave me. Is there anything that anyone else likes to do?

Anyone who has seriously considered the profession of writing

Anyone who has seriously considered the profession of writing, as I am, has most likely considered the fact that it takes a great toll out of anything that would happen to you in the future. I have had people in my life, people who were earnestly trying to help me, do their best to discourage me from being a professional writer. Their reasoning was that I would starve and always be poor. I was even told that a person needs to be as famous as Stephen King in order to make a living as a professional writer while not having to work some other job like accounting or retail.

With me, I'd shrivel if I tried doing those for the rest of my life. I'm currently unemployed, due to reasons other than simply wanting to write, so I do have the time right now, but in order to make a living at it, I know that I need to be able to write full time so I can have to edit and actually make it nice.

As I am right now, I am struggling to forget the discouragement I received in the past so that I can move on and actually do what I believe I was made for. The times when I do not write are the times when I do not really feel like I am living. I could write and never get published, but where's the fun in that? Why should I be satisfied with simply letting my creation sit there and do nothing? That would be like building a car and keeping it in the driveway to say that you built it.

For me, writing is not just a "hobby", as I have been told I should consider it. It's a way of life. It is the purpose in my life that helps define me as a person. I am a writer, that is what I am. I cannot escape it; I have tried. Is there anyone else who feels the same way about writing? Am I alone here? Am I mad or insane? What is the price you would pay to write?

The Hobbit, new movie

I had heard that the second movie would be the eighty or so years between the books, and this is what's getting me just a little worried about how it's going to turn out. I'm not sure Guillermo de Toro is going to keep to the canon that Tolkien set up, especially since I still think Peter Jackson should have let certain details alone (*cough* Arwen*cough*).

There really isn't that much information about the time gap, so they are going to have to make up a lot of information about it for the story. I heard that it could involve The Story of Arwen and Aragorn, from the appendices, which would make sense to me, since that's when it happened.

I am looking forward to the battle with the spiders. That's just going to be fantastic. At any rate, it's got to be better than Bakshi.

Musical instrument

I love to listen to just about any resonant instrument, like guitars or violins, although the wind instruments have to be my favorite, especially clarinet and other reed instruments. I'm learning to play the fife, but I've been playing the penny whistle for about three and a half years now. I'm not the best at it, but I'd say I'm pretty good.

May our tribe of writers increase.

Writing is a kind of relief valve for pent up emotions. Way before the internet or even computers, people used to write diaries, jotting down their day to day experiences and sometimes to the last minute detail. These were mostly people who could not give voice to their thoughts but they found they could give form to their feelings by way of words. Then again some found it was nice to write poetry on something that caught their fancy. There are guys like me for whom writing is a passion. I remember thinking of something nice to write on my way only to find myself having forgotten what I wanted to write. That gave birth to my jotting down points or a profound observation or sometimes a whole poem on a bus ticket or a paper napkin from a restaurant or any small bit of paper torn out of some odd newspaper.

I used to convert these into small stories or poems or just make a small paragraph and then use it in some other works where a situation warrants. I used to consider myself some kind of a maverick to be doing all this till I came across the computer. And now we have the internet and I find that I am just a mere speck in this vast ocean of word peddlers, and like we all agreed we get paid to put words to our thoughts.

I can't go a day without writing

Writing is more than a hobby, but a life defining aspect of my personality. I can't go a day without writing something, no matter how small, without having a problem. I have issues that I have never really learned how to deal with properly, but writing helps me do just that. A day I go without writing is a day that I go without growing. Even if it's just a little snippet of poetry that I scribble down on a napkin, I have to write something everyday.

I get so many ideas for stories based on things I see, hear or experience. Some of my characters are based so directly on the people in my life that I have to actively change the reason for their motivations and their personalities to keep the same feeling associated with them, but to make it less obvious who the person is. I never really got into the habit of journaling, which has derailed every attempt I've made at blogging, because I always get the feeling that my daily life is kind of boring, even to me. I suppose if I did it more, then I may change my mind. Right now, I'm working the writing bug by posting here on my blog.

What kind of tea do you REALLY like?

I don't really have the money to afford to buy tea, so I tend to get what I can. If there's black tea available, I have that, especially if it's Earl Grey. That stuff's just amazing. I've sometimes done things like put poppy seeds or chai spices in simple black tea. If it's green tea that I can get, I leave it alone. Otherwise, I use what I get. Just last night, I found out that the mint plant in our backyard was still alive (I had thought it was killed by the fennel nearby) and made a tea with mint, half the skin of a small orange and a sprig of rosemary. I had two pots of it. Delicious.

Do you have "a" most visited website?

I don't really have "a" most visited website, but I have a few of them. Wikipedia is the page that I've set as my homepage. Even though it's rightfully notorious for having not-so-accurate information (at best), it's still a good way to get information on things ranging from historical people to religious philosophies (tread carefully there) to spoilers on books and movies. After that, I check my email on Gmail quite often, and go on Facebook only slightly less often. I mostly just go on Facebook to see people's notes and play go with a few friends of mine. After that, there are Youtube and tvtropes.org. The second one is a wiki about the motifs you find in television, movies and books. That said, I usually have Pandora playing in the background. Other than that, I just started on blog, so I can't really say I visit that often...yet.

This Book Changed My Life

When I was a kid, I saw the Ralph Bakshi animated adaptation of "The Hobbit." It was so fun, so exciting and melancholy at the same time. That prompted me to read the book. I loved it even more than the movie. If they had only added the character of Beorn to the movie, but I can see why they didn't due to time. The fight with the spiders caught my imagination and the chapter "Riddles in the Dark" really hooked me to the point where I was trying to write my own riddles.

After that, a friend of my father, who was also a fan of Tolkien, talked to me about the books and realized how much I loved them. Soon after that, he died of a heart attack and his wife gave us all his books, including his Tolkien collection. I read through the Lord of the Rings and was amazed by the attention to detail that Tolkien put into it. That prompted me to write my own fantasy.

At first, my fiction was garbage. I mean Ed Wood bad. Bad DeviantArt fanfiction bad. As I grew up, I read the books a few more times, seeing quality before me and learning how to do my own quality writing. Then, when I went to college, I was talking to a girl I had just met and found out she liked the movies. When I asked if she'd read the books, she answered with a smile and "74 times." I was hooked even more as we talked for the next three hours about the books.

Now, we're still together after five years and working toward a place where we can get married. What I want to know is whether or not the books have affected people's lives like they did mine. Have you been prompted toward being a writer by reading them, or perhaps even pushed toward another book that affected you even more? Have you seen something in the books that affected the way you view life, or have you even met someone the way I met my fiancee?
